To help preserve the quality of the fishery and maintain a quiet, undisturbed river environment, swimming is not permitted in our private river park area. This allows anglers to enjoy calm waters while protecting fish habitat and minimizing unnecessary disturbance to the river ecosystem.

Because the Nueces river is shallow at our private river park and swimming is not permitted guests wishing to enjoy swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, or other water activities have an excellent nearby alternative. Wes Cooksey Park, located approximately 3.6 miles south of Camp Wood, offers convenient public access to a wider, deeper section of the Nueces River formed by the Lake Nueces dam. The park is a popular destination for swimming, picnicking, kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, and launching other small paddlecraft. It’s just a short drive from Nueces River Cabins, making it easy to enjoy the best of both experiences—a quiet, private river retreat at the ranch and a fun day on the water nearby.
